The Maasai and tanzanite
The Maasai tell of a lightning bolt that struck the earth and lit the rocks a brilliant blue. That, they say, is how tanzanite was made.
As a cherished heirloom it holds deep significance to the Maasai, who give it to women during childbirth. For them it stands for their bond with the earth and what lies hidden in it.
